Not all aftermarket BMW parts are created equal – here's why
One of the biggest misconceptions I come across is that all aftermarket BMW parts are the same. They're not.
People often hear the words aftermarket and assume every part comes from the same manufacturer or is made to the same standard. In reality, there's a huge difference in quality depending on who made the part.
Here's a simple breakdown:

Genuine BMW – Supplied in BMW packaging and sold through BMW dealerships.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) – Made by the same company that often supplies BMW, but sold under the manufacturer's own brand.

Aftermarket – Produced by independent manufacturers. Quality can range from excellent to poor.
For critical components like cooling system parts, suspension components, sensors and engine parts, the manufacturer matters just as much as the price.
A cheaper part isn't always a bargain if it fails prematurely or causes additional repairs. On the other hand, many reputable aftermarket brands offer outstanding quality at a significantly lower cost than Genuine BMW parts.
My advice when buying BMW parts:
